    HI Jhires,

It depends on if it's junk to you or junk to everyone. :) First sort it and have a garage sale or a lawn sale. If it's usable, you could also check out Habitat for Humanity ReStore if you have one in your area. Remember, junk to you may be gold to someone else. If it's toxic, contact your local Sanitation Dept. or Dept. of Public Works. There may be specific guidelines you must follow. For anything that is left, consider asking the same department if they do a large trash pickup. If not, throw away what you can and dispose of the larger items as they suggest. The Dept. of Public Works or Sanitation Dept. has dealt with this situation before. In my opinion, they are your best resource. Wishing you the best.

Call Goodwill. If there is enough quality stuff to donate, (bigger items) they may pick it up and take it.

Start in one corner, have the garbage can or bag handy for the junk. Make a pile of needed and donate. Once you have things sorted, decide where to store the needed things, put up shelving systems, use storage boxes. Put up a system to hang hand tools and heavy hooks to hang the heavier things like drills, saws, etc. Rakes, shovels, etc., the big heavy nails will hold them up on the walls. Drill a hole in the wood handled ones to hang them on the nails, or put up two nails and put rakes between them to hold them rake part up, you can do this with shovels, too, just make sure enough nail is sticking out to hold them securely. I hope this gives you somewhere to start. If you go to Restore, or second hand shops, kitchen cabinetry works really well up on the walls for storage of many things and hides them behind doors. I even use one to store big stock pots and things too big to fit in the kitchen cupboard!

  • Garage Sale. People love to DIG through other peoples stuff. You may come away with a tidy sum.

Make 4 piles. One pile to donate to Goodwill, a second to of stuff keep, a third to trash and a fourth that is an undecided pile. That will help you get rid of clutter and make putting things back in their place much easier.

You might want to consider other charities. In my neighbourhood, the MS Society comes directly to your home for pickups as does the Cerebral Palsy Foundation. They arrange a date and pick up the boxed items on the road. I'm sure that you probably have some great local charities that would be very appreciative.
