Deer eating my day lilies

by Martha
I have a large flowerbed in my back yard and in it I have around twelve different day lilies. Since the beginning we’ve had this problem with the deer, we bought so many products even made my own some worked for awhile. Now I have a young buck that during night is eating my lilies down to the soil. There isn’t a green shoot/sprout at all. I need helpful suggestions, Please

Someone posted recently that grated Zest bar soap sprinkled around hostas keeps deer away. Would probably work for day lilies just as well.

This works for us in the Colorado mountains.............chop a couple of jalepeno peppers and add to a bottle of water. Leave for a day.

Strain, and put into a spray bottle and spray your lillies

2 cups hot water, 2 table spoons garlic powder and cayenne pepper. Let it dissolve and cool down, put it in a spray bottle and spray the green of your lilies with it. That will last at least for 2 months if it doesn’t rain ( just reapply).

Try a mixture of 1/2 cup milk, 1 egg, 1 tsp dish liquid and fill the remainder with water in a gallon container. Shake well and put some in a spray bottle. Spray your plants and if it rains, repeat. They do not like the taste or smell. I have used this on my garden and it does work and does not harm the plants.
