I weeded near the driveway and the roommate said the privacy is gone .
I'd cut branches on order none might scrape my car going in or out .
The area around the mail box had BlackBerry vines and weeds all over and I'd cleaned it up a lot plus the over hang of branches too.
I don't know what your roommate is grousing about, The weeds were unsightly, I'm sure and you wanted rid of them. Now that you have gotten rid of them so that it looks better, you should be happy. If your roommate wants privacy, send your roommate to your local greenhouse to get suggestions of what is wanted as far of privacy. Have your roommate take a picture looking from the road so that they can see what area is to be worked on. You cleaned it up, roomy should take care of what roomy says is lack of privacy. I am sure there are a number of shrubs or taller perennials that would fit the bill. Just make sure that if you want flowering out there that it is suggested, or go with to help make decisions since you will probably end up planting them anyway. Have fun planting and spiffing up the area to your satisfaction.
It's hard to tell how big the space is from your picture. Perennial grasses grow pretty tall, they make a pretty focal point, and all you need do is cut them back each year. They won't scratch your car, either
Ask Roommate if they will share the cost of putting up a screen?

I bet a lot of what you cut back, grows back! unless you grubbed out all the root systems, the blackberrys should return, and you can 'train' them on a wire/metal stake trellis to control them.
If deer are A problem in your area, make sure you get plantings that they don’t like to eat and are resistant to deer

Try herbs--sage grows pretty tall into a lovely shrub, as well as other herbs. Turn that space into an herb garden or for a great summer plant, Mexican sunflowers (tithonia) are awesome. I'm not sure what your zone is, but they bloom in late summer and go on till frost. They get very tall and wide plus attract lots of butterflies (especially monarchs) and hummingbirds. Look on the internet and check them out. I've had a single plant get 7' tall and 3' wide with tons of blooms! Start them inside in a sunny window to get a head start on growing them, or plant out when it gets warm. Cut the blooms for arrangements to encourage them to branch out. Just a couple would fill in the space nicely.
