We put a chair rail behind the couch. the recliner love seat was different. We took a piece of shelving and made a brace on the floor that hits the back legs and the quarter round of the baseboard. It keeps it from shifting back when you put up the foot rest. No more scuff marks on the wall.
Put little peices, of foam on the cornes, at the back of the Couch, or run a strip of foam along the back. That way, when the Couch gets pushed, the foam stops it touching, or hitting the wall. Simple! If you use, double sided tape, to place the foam, you can remove it latter, should you need or won't to. Good luck! Kay Adelaide Australia
I used the board on the floor. You just need to choose a board that is wide enough to place between the couch feet and the wall. It's been working for me for years, and is not attached to anything, so no damage to flooring.
my husband solved this same problem for us by simply laying down a board behind the couch, making sure it was long enough and wide enough to prevent the back of the couch from hitting the wall behind it and scuffing it. If the board is going to show try staining or painting it the same color of the surrounding flooring. No need to secure it to the floor.

Ditto the board on the floor. Paint or stain it to blend with your flooring.
But up some type of bumper. Just like their are guards in parking lots where people park so they don't run into the building.
