In 2010 I was struck out of the blue with the idea for these paintings. Literally had an old window and grabbed it and started painting. As I continued to do more paintings I found that I had to fix the glazing on some of the old windows. I liked the chippiness so I left it. I changed methods of painting as I painted each window until I found what works for me. I could have used a drawing taped to the back of each window that I could follow, but I think freehand painting worked best for me. These are not reverse painted, I have enough trouble visualizing things head on, so I didn't make it too complicated. I've sold these at shops at the beach in North Carolina.

I liked the smaller sized window (about 19" square) with the 9 mullions. I decided to paint right over the mullions on this one. I used acrylic enamel craft paint as it works best for glass.
After the first painting I decided to try making the window into a view of the beach by only painting between the mullions. This really amped up the challenge.
I saw a photo of an empty wooden chair sitting by a dune and that inspired this painting. After I've completed each painting I spray generously with a clear acrylic to make keeping the windows dust free easier. (This window is a larger size about 24" x 24"
Whimsey was my next inspiration. How fun would it be if a mermaid swam right up to your window?
