I used stick on tiles, they don't last forever but mine are still ok 3 years on.
If you have a local re-store in your area? Go there you can get tiles or what ever you want a a big big savings. Happy DIYing
I put up contact paper over my small tiles and it turned out nice. Will send you photos. Bought paper on Amazon. 20.5" wide by 16.5 foot roll. Sticks well. Before has border on top and tile under. After has brick look paper.
I'm really glad I could help. You may need some extra glue at times depending on the surface you are sticking them to, but that hasn't been a problem for me. My tiles are all around my fierce electric induction cooker and the steam can be immense at times so some "No More Nails" glue can be helpful.
