My backyard is pea gravel and weeds.

Apparently the person who owned my home before me didn't want to bother with cutting grass so my back yard is pea gravel and weeds! (I don't mind cutting grass, in fact I like yard work). I tried to shovel out some of the pea gravel but it is very thick in some places and I am a 65 year old woman. I was wondering if there is anything I can do to make it look half way decent as it is quite ugly right now. Oh, did I mention that I live in a patio home and there is no access to the back yard except with a wheel barrel? Photos attached

You could contact your local Boyscout troop and see if they have any young men in need of a service project. They could have that pea gravel gone in no time!

    OR

You could place an ad for FREE PEA GRAVEL, speciflying that they need to haul it away.

You could shovel or rake the pea gravel to the sides and use for flower beds. Then rototill the ground for the grass seed and plant. I would mix a fertilizer into the ground while tilling to give the ground something to help grow the seeds. You could also take a soil sample to your local farm company and they can tell you what the ground needs to bring it back. Good luck

If you really want it gone, and can't find any other way, hire a landscaper to dig it out and haul it away, then level the yard and add some topsoil and seed for grass.

It might be expensive, but it will get the job done fast and you'll have many years of enjoying your outdoor space.

I would hire a handyman to rake that gravel to an area for a walkway and maybe use those pavers as the border. I would lay some landscape fabric under the pathway before putting the gravel down to prevent weed growth. or you could make an area for a patio with the gravel.

Then I would get it rototilled, pick all those weeds out, and have some top soil delivered as that looks pretty sandy. Re-seed lawn area and water daily until established.

I would also apply some Scotts Weed n Feed to kill all those weeds in areas not to be seeded with grass.
