I don’t know what Type the original paint is. Also, any Suggestions on how to make painting window panes easier would be appreciated.

I like a semi to a gloss paint for trim..easier to clean. For the windows there are paint pads that are a about an inch wide....some times at big box diy stores they will be packaged as a “trim kit” and have a few extra pads.

And use painters tape along trim and also to make your own "inside corners" to keep paint out, burnish edges well. Angled brush, don't overload

go to or call a dedicated paint store...SW..is one and ask about the existing paint, and what to prime it with.

I agree with DFM, semi gloss is great for trim.

Use sand paper and a deglosser to prep trim for paint.

Once you have taped, primed, and painted your windows and find that a little paint has bled onto your glass, a razor blade will clean it up.

Take your time and use an exacto knife to cut paint at edge of wood and glass. This will keep you from peeling paint off of the wood. Then use the razor blade (a widget tool is nice) to scrape the paint off of glass.

latex has the easier clean up, oil based requires a solvent to to clean a brush/ roller- and special precautions for clean up. i haven't used enamel my mom has and what i remember is a not so nice smell.
