Personally, I’d keep the moss and ditch the grass. You dont have to mow moss.
You can kills moss with Lily Miller Moss Out, I like the granules applied with a lawn spreader for the lawn area. And I use the liquid in the hose attachment bottle for walkways, porches etc.
Moss invades where there is poor drainage in the soil, and too much old thatch in the lawn. De-thatch the grass annually, usually in fall, you can rent a machine or get a special blade for your mower. When cutting grass use a bag to catch the clippings, or rake every time.
Aerate the lawn using a rental machine that pulls plugs out of the lawn to improve drainage.
If its a shady area, get a good shady grass mix to reseed.
Prepare the area just as you would for planting seed or laying sod. The roots will use the water that is promoting the growth of the moss.
Do you live in an area that is very humid or gets lots of rain?
