How to frame a large wall mirror?

There are inexpensive mouldings made from foam rather than wood or pvc. They are quite light weight. Use that. Measure your mirror, make your frame and put it together with contractor's glue. Let dry. Then glue with contractor's glue directly to the mirror. An 8 foot pc. on Amazon can be as low as $24 USD. Or, you can faux paint a frame directly on the mirror. Good luck.

Depending on the style you are decorating in, you could use boards from pallets to create a frame that is secured to the wall and not attached in any way to the mirror. You could make it look like the mirror/frame is one piece by cutting away a 1/2" piece of the wood the thickness of the mirror and overlap the mirror by that 1/2". Miter the corners or do the side pieces 1" shorter than the height of the mirror and run the top and bottom pieces out to the edges of the sides.

Frame the mirror. Paint (or stain) the frame first. Instead of trying to cut mitered corners, just put a rosette in each corner. Looks nice when finished. We used the rosettes on the corners of a doorway. Good luck to you.

Ditto on the rosette corners if you don't have a miter (chop) saw. Paint the back side of your frame black or dark gray so you don't have the reflection of unfinished wood shinning back at you.

Why not just miter cut inexpensive 2 inch wide pine board. I’ve used strips of pine for so many projects. Once the pine frame is nailed or glued into place and painted, it

looks really great. I’ve also framed in a few mirrors with inexpensive narrow wall paper border. I just used really good wallpaper paste. I think there is even a newer product out similar to contact paper that’s specifically for framing in things like mirrors or walls.

Go to your nearest box store. Go to the moulding/trim section. Find a 'rabbeted' chair rail moulding. The rabbett on the back will hang over mirrors edge. Just miter the corners like a picture frame. (See attachment)

Could you make a frame out of cardboard (cut carefully and precisely, miter the corners for a more professional look) cover with a cheap remnant of fabric, coat with several coats of latex paint to make somewhat waterproof, either glue with construction glue or for a more temporary adhesive?

There are some very pretty stencils that you could use to paint a border around the mirror. You could use a color that complements colors you use in your accessories, towels, etc.
