take pictures of the chair as is, from all 4 sides. And under. The least expensive way to recover is with a throw blanket or sheet and tuck it in well. Hand towels on the arms Can help.

the chair may not feel the same after re doing the upholstery. Basically the pieces of fabric on the chair become the pattern for the fabric that’s going on next. Give yourself an extra inch or so all around..esp if you replace a cushion. You might need to use a staple gun, upholstery tacks And hammer.

Utilize an inexpensive tablecloth when cutting out your pattern. Remove as many staples prior to placing new fabric on chair. You will need a staple gun, fabric glue, hammer to ensure staples are set and of course, the material of your choice. Allow extra time to remove original staples and keep the metal strips to reuse. Good luck!

Vinyl tablecloths with the flock backing work quite well for pattern pieces as they are not as slippery as plain thin fabric. The edges are quite sturdy and do not easily. These are inexpensive to buy.
