What is the best way to strip paint off of metal cabinets?
My kitchen cabinets are metal and have been painted 2X but I think they're ready to be stripped before being painted again.

if you can, test the paint for lead. If lead present don’t sand strip the finish off. Call around and have the paint dip stripped off. The cabinets can be removed from the wall to do it. Once that’s removed, sand cabinets use rubbing alcohol to wipe the dust off water will raise the wood grain rubbing alcohol doesn’t. prime and paint. Re install. It helps if you number each cabinet, starting from left to right Before taking them down.

Sanding is another option but is messy. I find it therapeutic and actually enjoy it, but most people don't.

I have had good luck using a heat gun to strip the paint off. Hold the heat gun, turned on to high, a few inches from a small section of the paint only until the paint bubbles. Use a drywall spatula to scrape the paint off. Repeat in another area until most of the paint is removed. You might have to sand some spots. Use a filter mask to avoid inhaling lead dust if you’re not sure the paint is lead free.
