  • There are a lot of factors to be considered. First your climate. Then the individual plants needs. What plants do you have?

For example, where I live, I have only had 3 rain events since the beginning of winter. I have already had days in the mid 80's. My plants get watered every few days year round. In other climates, this is not necessary. I water according to the plant and there individual needs, and it is an activity I enjoy. Others may not like to do this or have the time.

It depends on the type of plant. I have some that thrive in wetness while others like to be dry. As a rule; most plants withstand dryness over wet feet.

As an example: I have bamboo planted at the bottom of a hill. It stays wet in this area. The bamboo thrives. My roses need good soil, however; they would rot at the bottom of the hill. I grow them highet and dryer. Study the needs of your individual plants.

It depends on the plant. In the case of planters and annuals I like to use the additive “soil moist” product to increase the time between manual watering.

there are many factors to consider -- the kind of plant ... some require a LOT of water, but don't like 'wet feet' ( need good drainage ) ; others require much less, and should only be watered if there is insufficient rain for your area; soil type plays into it as well; heavy/clay soil, light porous soil, sandy coarse soil ... and your natural annual rainfall; plants that are native to your area will obviously do more with less than those from outside your growing area. Even plants that are container grown follow the same basic guidelines ...
