Is there a way to install a hood vent / fan system on an inside wall

I have an older house, its stove connection is on an inside wall away from an outside wall where a hood vent could be attached. Is there any way that one can be attached to vent outside without having to open walls and try to pipe it through to the outside?

Check into the possibility of installing a Down-Draft kitchen fan. These are mounted into the counter top usually behind the cook top or slide-in range, or in free-standing islands. They rise up when 'turned on' and disappear down when 'turned off'.
