Can you paint tile backsplash?

With a kitchen remodel not in the plans for a couple of years, I was wanting to change the existing back splash. Can the tile be painted, and if so, what type of paint?

I painted mine....I used Bullseye white primer, dark brown flat paint, then stippled gold, copper and bronze metallic craft paints on it.....looks like a very expensive tile😊
