You can put the fountain in the middle of the area towards the back and arrange a outdoor furniture set in the area. You may want a cement or paver area to put the fountain on so that it has a flat sturdy area to reside. The rest you could do as you wish, stone, gravel, pavers, concrete or any combination, although you may want at least the furniture on something solid. You could put a firepit in the middle for cool evenings. Make it into an area that you will love to sit and relax with the sound of the running water in the fountain, a cup of coffee, tea, wine, cocktail, whatever. Include potted plants in the area and maybe a garden perimeter around the edge of where the pool was. Take paper and draw out the area, graph paper is great for sizing everything you want to do in the area. Make cut outs of the fountain and anything you want to put in by sized and arrange until you find the arrangement of everything you want. Once you find a permanent home for the fountain, tack down the piece for that, etc. do the same for each thing, including planters until you find the spot you want it all in, then let the work begin!

Perhaps make a square or round patio area using patio blocks, slate or flagstones, with the fountain as a focal point. The rest of the space left by the pool could be taken up by plantings of shrubs or perennials, or grass, as desired.

Install the fountain, make a bbq area, seating area, make a planter and garden area, etc.

  • Hire or have a consult with a landscape designer if you don't know what to do or feel overwhelmed trying to decide.

This could be a great opportunity to rethink how you'd like to use your yard. Maybe outline the area with a garden hose or something like it to "envision" the boundary of the area. Place some buckets or other items to imagine where/how you might want to create a conversation area. Include that fountain in the plan where it needs to be to have water to it. Maybe plant a few tall plants right in the ground or use large potted plants so you can move them around. It's very relaxing to be near a fountain and hear the movement of the water. You can make it beautiful. Draw out a plan on paper and take to the garden center of a big box store (Lowes, Home Depot) and a knowledgeable person there could assist you in choosing proper plantings. Good Luck!

Have our thought about laying out a pattern with patio stones which would be a good foundation for your fountain and any other furniture you want to use in that area.

Since it is nicely leveled for you already, you could add pavers over the entire area, or just pea gravel the entire area and put cement blocks for the furniture to sit on
