Front door?

Help! I've recently decided that I want to paint our front door a "fun" color. The siding is tan, and the shutters (and front door, currently) are black. I'd like to keep the shutters black. Thoughts?? Bad idea?

You could do a shade of grey or a nice mocha that would match your tan and compliment the black.

So you just want to paint the front door, leaving the shutters black and the siding tan? depending on the colors you like.. personally I like blues and greens. so I would go with a turquoise or a Kelly green. but yellow would be nice too and so would red.

I'd paint the door RED !!!

  • Fantastic idea! A pretty teal, pale turquoise, lilac or lavender come to mind.

Go bright - bright teal or a deep, rich eggplant color

I would also not forget to consider the brick as another color that's already on the house.

I know some people have strong feelings about painting brick, but I would consider painting it the same color as your siding.

Perhaps also consider painting the two garage doors two shades darker (or even black) than the siding. Right now, they stand out and are the first things your eyes go to when looking at your house. Your home is beautiful and it's a shame the garage doors distract from your beautiful front entry.

Back to your question about front door color . . . a deep persimmon or red would be beautiful. Your home is more stately than cutesy, so I would go with any rich, jewel tone for the front entry door.

My first thought when looking at the pictures is to go with the black on the garage doors white trim around the doors and possibly the columns I love the look of black and tan. It's very classy to me.

Experiment! My theory is "it's only paint!" You shouldn't need much paint, so if you don't like the first attempt, it won't break the bank to change it. Get sample containers and put up several to see which you like best.

Hey Briana. Not sure if you decided. As an artist (painter) and designer I think your home looks lovely. A pop color would be fabulous!!

Now I have clients who want to Feng Shui the door color which depends on which direction it faces. Others don’t care.

With your lovely classic colors of what looks beige or greige and white - look at the new colors for 2017 and 2018 as per sherwin Wms etc. on Pinterest. I think a lovely pop green would look great. Not a dark green but lighter. Red would be ok but I wouldn’t. I also think a really rich yellow or a medium blue Check Pinterest for front door colors on beige black home too.

Def high gloss. Latex. Good Luck. Cher
