When you get the seeds read the back of the package it should tell you how much sun they should have to germinate. The should give you an idea of where to place them.

Generally speaking, vegetables need a minimum of 6 hours true sun. Because they are in containers, they will need more water than if in a garden as potted plants dry out quicker. Remember, just giving them a cup or two of water will not work. They need to be soaked weekly as you need to get the water to the bottom of the pot for the deep roots. Use a good potting soil for vegetables, then add specific nutrients for that specific plant. As an example: Tomatoes are heavy calcium users so add crushed egg shells around the plant. Good luck, have fun with growing your vegies!

The tags with the plants when you buy them should give light and water requirements. The beauty of planting in containers is that you can move them around as needed. If it's a big pot, use crushed aluminum cans in the bottom of the pot before adding soil to keep the weight of the pot manageable, so it's easier to move the pot.

Thanks, never thought of using crushed cans for drainage.

If you have sun all day, you can grow most any vegetable that will grow in pots. But pots dry out quickly, especially in the heat. Some of my pots require watering almost every day. You also have to fertilize a little more in pots. Miracle grow works well in pots. You can reuse the soil, just be sure to add a little new each year, and fertilize. I use the packing peanuts that come in mailing packages instead of rocks in the bottom of the pots. Makes them easier to handle.

Thanks, for the information on Mircle Gro. I think part of my problem is remembering to water daily.
