Ideas for back yard privacy

My yard is fenced in with a 4 foot chain link fence. The neighbors have a dog that barks as soon as she sees us & does not stop. Although I love animals I am sick of hearing this dog bark & her owner saying "Come here Bella"!!!! I need some ideas to block Bella's view into my yard. Something to cover the fence so she can't see through it at all! Any suggestions!!!!

You may have to put up a board fence on that side. A brick wall would be even better. Maybe a heavy duty canvas drape would suffice.

I don't want to spend a lot of money. The area is about 10 feet long that I need to block. I was thinking something on the fence - I don't want to replace it.

Even if she can't see you, she will hear you and bark. Your best bet is to make friends with the dog so she is happy to see you. Bring her an owner approved cookie each time you head out and she will stop seeing you as an intruder. You won't have to do it forever, but a couple of weeks should be expected.

  • A solid fence is your best bet but you can weave slats thru a chain link fence. Or like at the high schools..... Jam solo cups thru the openings!

There are many types of "fencing panels" that are available that you buy for chain link or hang and pin. Some are actually really nice, Not too expensive. Amazon has a few to choose from and will give you the loss of vision of the dog seeing you, but he will still smell and hear you. LOL

Bella probably needs some training and will continue to bark at every sound she hears. A suggestion: Get a tape recorder, tape the dog's barking and then play it back when they have their windows open late at night and see what kind of response you get.

    Some ideas:

I would double this up so it is less "see through" and you wuld still have a lot left over after you covered your 10 feet long area: http://www.fencescreen.com/Products/Privacy-Screen.aspx/prod-1664/50ftx6ft-tan?_vsrefdom=wordstream&keyword_session_id=vt~adwords|kt~|mt~|ta~217423698153&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_7_LqoK12QIVSjyBCh0SYgxYEAQYASABEgIZwfD_BwE

We put slats that weave thru the chain link in our years ago. You can get regular slats or ones that provide extra privacy. Made a huge difference.

Right. It sounds like you have a good idea to put something ON the fence. I imagine the question is what. Covering it completely so the dog can’t see you sounds like quite a challenge. Everything I think of would leave gaps. If it’s just 10 feet wide, maybe you can use that space for a storage rack for various yard supplies, or a waterproof cabinet of Some sort.

The dog is going to bark, even if it can't see you. My thought is to purchase one of those electronic "no bark" boxes. There are various price ranges based on distance covered. They run anywhere from $20-$80. I found one at a garage sale for $5 one time when I had neighbors who left their dog in their back yard when they left. They absolutely did not believe their dog was annoying because it would be fine when they were home. I decided to try it thinking I'd probably wasted my money, but it worked! There are many different ones available on the Amazon.com website. There is no harm to the dog and you'll be SO relieved. You could plant vines near your chain link fence in addition to soften the look and give you some visual privacy from the non-barking dog.
