If you’re a regular reader of my blog, you know that I’m nuts for the Habitat For Humanity ReStore. It’s a virtual treasure trove of goodies such as cabinet doors, vintage doors, cabinet hardware, vintage windows, paint, stain, etc. – all at rock bottom prices! It’s a DIYer’s dream, especially if you’re trying to stick to a budget!
This is the cabinet door I repurposed. As you can see it was already painted and was pretty dirty. I used Krud Kutter Prepaint Cleaner to clean all the dirt and gunk off. Krud Kutter always makes cleaning dirty cabinet doors a snap and gets them really clean!

Once the cabinet door was clean, I used FamoWood Latex Wood Filler to fill in the hole where the door pull used to be. I like FamoWood Latex Wood Filler because it’s super easy to use and dries in 15 minutes so I can move on to painting without having to wait too long, because who has time for that?

Project Materials:
  • Cabinet door
  • 2 handles and screws
  • Krud Kutter Prepaint Cleaner
  • FamoWood Latex Wood Filler
  • Felt self-sticking furniture pads
  • 1 quart Valspar Chalky Finish Paint in Her Dainties
  • 1 pint Valspar Antiquing Glaze
  • 1 pint Valspar clear Sealing Wax
  • Paint and wax brushes
  • Soft cloth rags
  • Screwdriver or drill
I only had to use one coat of paint on the cabinet door since it had been previously painted. If it wasn’t painted beforehand, I’d have to use 2-3 coats depending on how dark the wood was.
After allowing the paint to dry thoroughly, I lightly distressed the cabinet door, and then working in sections applied a coat of glaze with a paint brush and removing the excess with a soft cloth while I worked. Once it was thoroughly dry, I applied a coat of clear sealing wax, again removing the excess with a soft cloth while I worked and allowing it to dry thoroughly.
I applied the self-sticking felt furniture pads to the back of the cabinet door-turned-tray to keep it from scratching any of the surfaces I placed it on.
I screwed in the handles using my drill.
All done! Ain’t it pretty? I just love how it turned out!
