Want to give a plain interior door a little (lots) character? Checkout this little mini door that gave access to our water heater. It was just too plain and awkward, so I decided to give it a little character.
This is the small and very awkward door above the air return. I started by removing the existing door handle and buying some trim to add dimension.
Added some wood trim for dimension. Taped in place to measure out before I glued then nailed sporadically. Allowed area for new door knob and ornate plate.
Once trim was dry and I fastened the new door plate & know, I began painting one light coat of dark brown paint over all of the door. I then made some mock hinges by outlining the design with caulk and allowing it to dry overnight.
Once dry, I put a light coat of white wash allowed it to dry and sanded it down lightly. Exposing some of the brown underneath to show through. I then added some bronze tacks here and there (see above)
I then painted the mock hinges a dark color and applied some bronzing medium for dimension.
The last step was mounting the door plate and new glass knob.
Little hobbit door with character & spunk.
