I love the fact that our condo has a fireplace, but I never loved the look of the fireplace. It was just so dirty and gross looking. And even after cleaning it on a regular basis, it still looked stained and horrible.

That's when I decided to spray paint the interior of our fireplace. And yes...you can do this the safe way if you use the right tools!
Here's our fireplace before I got my hands on it. It’s dirty, sooty, and just a bit of an eyesore.

In an attempt to “hide the dirt” I decided to paint the interior of our brick fireplace black! That way it would always look cohesive and future soot wouldn’t tarnish the aesthetics of the fireplace.
After vacuuming out debris and cleaning the fireplace (more on how to do that in this blog post), I was ready to get to spraying! I used this high heat spray paint from Rustoleum that is designed to be used on places like a fireplace.

Follow the directions on the back of your can, but really you’ll just want to shake it up vigorously and use light coats of spray paint on the interior. I ended up doing 3 light coats and only waited a few minutes in between each (per the instructions on the can).
I love the matte black and it looks SO MUCH CLEANER! Definitely an easy project to improve the look of your fireplace!
Check out this blog post for the full step-by-step tutorial and links to the product I used.
