I had always wanted to make a giant clock cause I have an addiction to clocks. I was in the process of drawing one out by using 2x4's when I thought of giant cable spools. I was lucky to find someone selling some on craigslist so I picked up the largest one he had. 48" diameter! YIKES!
1st step was taking the entire spool apart, wiped it down, and letting it sit for awhile to acclimate.  Then on to putting it together.
Had hubs help with ordering the right size of clock work and hands and he even found the rustic iron numbers.
Basically this just took some installation of the clock works, setting the time and making sure the hands worked properly.
Then drilling all the numbers in place and setting the clock hands to measure up with alignment.
That was it. What a wonderful clock don't you think? Dudes, now I'm to places on time- I don't have any excuses!

I love this idea! I have a collection of old kitchen tools (can opener, whisk, etc) that I want to use in the number positions on a large clock. Please tell me where I can get the clock and hands. I'd love to see my idea happen! I can be reached at lrbs@bellsouth.net . TIA
