I had been off work for 3 days because the university that I work for was closed due to the icy road conditions. I don't normally have that kind of time on my hands. Why not take advantage of it.
I wanted to spruce up a chair I bought about a year ago. I previously painted and upholstered it. To transform it I knew it needed to be painted. Like I really needed an excuse to get out my paint sprayer again. It's my new favorite (toy) tool. My husband said if he stood still long enough I would paint him too.🙄
It blends into the wall.
I wiped the chair down with mild soap and water. I let it completely dry before painting it. I hunted down my paint and fabric I had put away for just the right projects. Who knew it would be for the same project. I thought about making a runner or pillow out of the fabric.
Some of my supplies
I removed the seat from the chair. I pressed the fabric on both sides to make sure all of the wrinkles were gone. I layed the seat underside up in the middle of the fabric. I pulled the material taunt towards the center of the seat. Then I started stapling making sure the material stayed tight. The corners can be a little tricky. The material tends to want to bunch up. I've learned that the had way.
Stapling the material onto the seat.
I took the chair down to the basement to be painted. The paint sprayer was filled with the paint and water mixture. I sprayed three coats on it. Making sure each coat was dry before applying the next one. The things I love about the Wagner Paint sprayer is that the coats of paint dry fast and you get done in about a third of the time it takes to brush it on. Also there's no fumes off the paint like cans of spray paint. It may be different if you use oil base paint. I used chalk paint and also latex paint in my sprayer.
The paint went on nice and smooth.
I let the chair dry completely. I attached the seat back on. I had to find another screw for the seat because one was missing.
My bright new chair.
I decided that instead of putting it back in the living room I would put it in the bedroom. Also instead of the pillow I sat three cherished stuffed animals on it. All gifts from my sweet husband. This project did not cost me any money because I had everything I needed. I am always being giving items from my family for projects. They will bring me things from thrift shops, garage sales or things they are getting rid of. I'm known for being the crafter in the family. Now onto my next project. Two little brass and glass tables that was being thrown out. My sister rescued them for me. I'm going to take advantage of the nasty weather. The weatherman is predicting more ice and snow for this weekend. A typical February day here in Missouri. It was in the 60's last week.
