I want to make beads with fragile objects like insect wings and toy cars and suspending them in resin seems like a permanent option

In Hobby Lobby and Michael’s, you can buy a two step resin in containers large enough to do several projects. You can use almost any smooth bottle cap or purchased mold. Your idea of toy cars sounds original. I guess you could buy about anything in the miniatures section. I hope you will take photos and post your results on Hometalk. ☺️

Two part resin. Wear mask so not to breathe in fumes. You might want mold release if you are using non-sylicone molds. When mixing the resin, stir slowly to avoid incorporating any bubbles. Add mixed resin half way. Pre coat object so to prevent air bubbles that will want to cling to the object. Place/position object as desired into/on resin. Cover object / fill mold until mold is at capacity. Wait a couple of minutes allowing any air bubbles to rise to the surface, use a straw to blow out bubbles. Place a box or some other protective cover over it as dust, hair and other particles will seek out your work and stick to it.

As you get better, you might want to gently warm the resin with a heat gun (not blow dryer as it will cause more work) or a small torch which will allow the bubbles to rise and burst on their own.

Wear disposable gloves and cover/protect your work area, resin is super sticky when wet and will dry rock hard.

There's a rubber mold kit that will create a reusable mold that you can suspend an object with a fine wire / thread and pour the resin into the mold to encase that object. It's easily removed from mold. Check on line maybe on Amazon or a jewelry / craft casting creating a mold

This is where someone with personal experience comes in handy. Go to your local hobby and craft store they should be able to steer you in the right direction.
