Dwarf Mondo will grow, spread and thrive under trees. It's really nice to walk on, too.
It will have to be artificial as grass does not grow under trees..........
Apply top soil, shade grass seed for your location,starter fertilizer,lime and top with peat mass, keep moist until germinated
If it won't get much foot traffic and is for appearance and keeping the soil in place check out the wide range of ground covers for shade.
Depends of type of trees. Some produce a "poison" that does not allow anything to grow around them. You may want to use potted plants with plants that are runners. Good luck.
