How can I make an outdoor carpet for my deck that is water proof?

    You can buy large area rugs that are polypropylene. We have one that we put right over a pea gravel patio and we've had it for years. It isn't water PROOF, but is resistant to the elements and cleans off with a garden hose.

    A rug that is free of a rubber backing can be 'waterproofed' by rubbing parrifin over the back side first, then the top side. Working in sections, rub the parrifin in, then use a hair dryer to melt the parrifin into the area, let it cool and reharden before moving to the next section. Once finished on the back side, start the same on the front, again, working in sections. I do this over s couple layers of craft paper just in case of wax drippage and excess wax to protect my floor or deck. I then cut plastic drop cloth to adhere to the bottom to protect my deck from any wax that may melt during extremely hot, sunny days.

    You can buy outdoor carpeting. It comes in many colors & is very inexpensive.
