Cement slab is 4x6 at bottom of steps outdoors. How can I build it up so that it doesn't retain water when it rains. It goes back under the cement steps so it can't be raised. Thank you in advance.

You can try to grade around it to make the water run away from it instead of onto it. Use some well draining material like washed rock on the grading

You have to cut back the dirt first, then add a well draining material like washed rock. If you just add rock, it won't help.

The cement needs to be graded (not perfectly flat) so water runs off of it.

We had this situation at our outside door to the basement. My husband broke up the concrete and replaced it was brick pavers over a sand base. The water was able to drain and no more water accumulated at the back door.
