Go on line and check out "KILLZ".

I have used many times. Can prime black with KILLZ and you can paint white over top.

Maybe a light stain or gel stain would help them out

I just painted my kitchen cabinets a year ago. For the uppers I used oil based paint in an ivory tint. Here in Ohio, according to a painter, it is only being sold in quarts. Semi gloss so it will wear. Must prime the cabinets, so have the primer tinted to match the final color. On the base cabinets, I used a high end latex recommended by Sherman Williams. Tinted the primer also. The oil base on the upper cabinets is harder and has not had one single nick or chip in a year. The latex on the base has had several and I will have to touch them up soon. If I did it again, I would use all oil base paint. Don't buy anything cheap. My daughter painted her cabinets with milk paint, but it turned out to be pretty expensive if you can find it. She also bought a sprayer for the application, but good quality brushes like those from Wooster Brush will do the job with almost no brush marks. Use a deglosser (liquid sandpaper) to take the gloss finish off the cabinets before the primer. Be prepared for the odor.

clean, sand, kiltz, the use gloss or high gloss. It will be shiny but it will hold up to washing over time to keep them clean.
