This is a LOTUS seed pod. Looks as if it has been in sea quite some time!

Yes you can buy them dried at floral supply.
living they are green with seeds where the holes are now.

  The object used in fresh floral arrangements is called a FROG. I have an old glass one that was in an old flower vase I found at a yard sale. I also have a little gray metal one.

  Jude, thank you for responding. Perhaps the pic was not clear to you but the object has been identified as a seed pod from the lotus water lily. What you have shown is as you state--a frog which is used in flower containers to help keep cut flowers upright. They are virtually extinct now. I have one large & one small of the glass ones. I was sure it belonged in water some way as hundreds of them have suddenly washed up on the beaches in Galveston TX. Never seen them on it before, curious to know what caused this...

It is an empty seed pod Oriental, sorry the name escapes me at the moment.......Could be Lotus flower
