I have used wall paint on furniture many, many times. Just make sure that you use satin or semigloss and a high quality paint. Chalk paint is also a good option. You shouldn't have issues with fingerprints with any of these choices.

Hi Debi, please tell me if one needs to sand the piece before applying the satin or semigloss paint. I'm wanting to paint my old 1980's wood dresser to a black and white piece and want to avoid sanding. I don't mind priming first, I don't want to wax either and I believe I would need to wax if I use chalk paint. It's my first project so I'm trying to get an answer from someone who has been there and done that :)

      Thanks much!!!

Unless the stains are oil based, a primer shouldn't be necessary. Having said that, I usually prime my pieces before I use chalk paint. Most people don't prime, but I am always happier with the results when I prime first.

No, chalk paint goes over anything.
