Sun or shade, annual or perennials or both! This is your 1st decision.

I prefer perennials. It is mostly full sun exposure. I do not want to put tall trees. Bushes are fine. I have some nandinas there now.

If you want little upkeep, the colorful grasses are hardy.

There are several varieties of sedums and they multiply and will fill in nicely. Some are very low growing and have a slight mauve tint to their leaves. Any plant nursery will be able to show you a wide variety. Very hardy plants.

Back to my Loriope again. Cheap, propogates and can be easily thinned out as the yrs. go by. Looks nice mixed in with colorful annuals or perennials.
