I want to take an old tire and make a planter for my yard.

    That's lovely. What is your question? I'd find an old tire, fill it with dirt and plant my pants.

    Cool...they make great flower beds, tires are made with rubber petroleum and I’d seal the inside of the tire before adding the weed barrier. Then it’s a matter of adding the potting mix and planting. I’ve also seen tires used to make a flower shape like a tulip to plant in...not sure where that flyer went...

    They are a great way to recycle. Some put concrete or something to weigh down a bit, but if heavy enough tire to not shift, you can just use a heavy plastic underneath to weed block and fill with dirt and some miracle grow. If you want to allow to grow deeper and don't mind weeding, then forego the plastic and trade it for just cloth weed block--that helps.

    Great idea to recycle and reuse, be careful not to trap standing water.

    had a many of them! from Tractor tires to regular 'car' tires..... just fill with a good quality potting soil and plant away!! most are used for annual plants for color ... but I have seen small shrubs planted in them as well.
