I have the worst smell coming from my laundry room. It's so bad

if it is a front load clean the seal that seals the door when closed seems the two ??rubber seals retain moisture causing the smell

It sounds like you might have a dead mouse there, maybe a heat vent or in around a pipe? We had one get stuck and died next to my daughters hot water pipe. Check behind baseboards too. Even under your machines where small animals could fit.

Hi Matt, Did you find out why your insulation was wet?! That should be addressed, not just replaced. If you have a leak somewhere it can cause mold, which smells pretty bad, and can be very dangerous to your lungs.

Madeline, my friends son was a cook in a small retirement facility and they had a terrible odor in their laundry room too. This man is one of those "can do anything" type guys and he figured out that a raccoon had climbed into the drier vent and died. That is what was causing the odor. Removed the hose and the raccoon was gone too!

The newer washers need to be cleaned periodically, they smell really bad! Don’t know if you have one but they sell the washer cleaner at Walmart. Sometime you need the washer drain cleaned out by a plumber. Clean everything in The laundry room with bleach!

I had a smell I couldn't figure out in my kitchen. It seemed to be strongest near the fridge, so I scrubbed it out, etc. Finally, we pulled the fridge out of it's built in space and there was a dead mouse behind it. Check the crawl space if there is one, around the baseboard heaters, the exhaust hose for the dryer, etc. They only need a tiny space to crawl in somewhere. The wet insulation sounds like a problem, also. Here's a product I once used when there was something stinky in the attic and we couldn't find what it was:

My wife always leaves the door of her washer open when it’s not in use cause it will smell terrible if she doesn’t. You may want to give that at least a try for a week or two and see if it helps your smell problem any? As far as dead mice goes, it possible it can even be a different dead animal? I’m a contractor by trade and I have pulled out old cabinets to find even dead squirrels under the toe kick area where squirrels found a way in but apparently couldn’t find their way out! Funny talking to the home owner when a light bulb goes off inctheir head seeing the dead squirrels and they say you know several years back we had this terrible smell in the kitchen and never could find where it was coming from? The smell eventually stopped and we never gave it any more thought till you showed us those dead squirrels! So you just never know what might find it’s way into the walls or floors of your home? But the good news is the smell will go away at some point if it’s a dead animal making your smell! By the way, if you’re using Decon mouse poison by any chance? Normal this makes the mice die of thirst from what I have been told and the mouse will normally come out in the open looking for water before dying. But this isn’t always the case and sometimes they will die inside a wall somewhere? I personally prefer traps over poison for this very reason! But with that being said, I had a war with mice trying to catch them with traps! To make a very long story short! I figured out using a jelly bean super glued to where you put the bail on a trap works like a charm! The mouse is forced to stay at the trap and chew away at the jelly bean and they can’t pick it up and run off with it! Longer that mouse is at the trap the more likely their going to set off the trap! Once I came up with this plan of attack the mice were meeting their maker at a alarming rate! I highly recommend giving it a try if you have any troubles with mice?

Mold also smells that bad, I would guess there might be a leak somewhere..... did he find where the water in the insulation came from?

and if its one of those new front loading low water washers, you have to run the cleaner through it regularly of they stink to high heaven.

Ooooh, my sense of smell is my super power and this would drive me nuts. We had a similar problem in our Laundry space and it was a squirrel in our dryer vent. Smelled for a week before we found him!
