Oh No! Sometimes you can find a sharpie marker the right color...
Use RIT liquid dye. There are so many colors to choose from nowadays. So easy, and "hello new new pants!" :)
I've used fabric dye in the washing machine in a darker tone on blue denims for faded areas and it works well. It will lighten a bit with repeated washing but it is fairly uniform overall lightening.
Not just on the faded bits, however - the while garment LOL!
Make it a design feature - Outline the area and write a slogan? Draw something or embroider or Applique or Make a grid etc........
