Cushioning for loft

We have a loft, only 36" to ceiling, which we plan to make into an area where a preteen girl can recline and play games, chat on the phone, read her kindle, etc. My plan is to cushion the floor, cover the cushion with fake fur and add many throw pillows. Should I use a 3" foam mattress topper or foam by the yard for the cushioning? Should the fake fur be a rug or fur-by-the-yard? Should I use a non skid rug pad under the rug or fur-by-the-yard?

From experience, mattress toppers tend to be a bit less expensive than foam by the yard, but they can also be less firm/dense. As for the fur, the by-the yard option may give you more choices in colors (and if you shop around, you may be able to find a 40% off coupon!). Non-skid rug pads are a good idea for either solution. If you use a rug, it may have a non-stick backing.

I would definitely use a non skid surface to hold whatever flooring materials you decide on. I would be hesitant to cover the whole area in a furry surface due to snacking and clean up. I would opt for larger area rugs that can be cleaned.
Find a soft quilt that will cover the floor area and lay faux fur by the yard on top. If you secure it to floor, your preteen will not be able to move it around like she wants. Let her decide how thick she wants it!!!!
I believe the best way is to save money and the easiest to keep clean. I would use faux fur rug, and no foam or mattress. Depending on the rug you may need a non-skid rug pad. Many colorful matching pillows.

Click together foam tiles they use for gyms and toddlers play area would make a great non-slip base. Lots of colors available. I’d then cover the 3” foam mattress with fake fur (so you can occasionally wash it or shake out crumbs). . Walmart has reasonably price Shag rugs to put over base - shag is always fun and chic. a Fake fur-covered beanbag chair or two, or even a chaise-lounge cushion covered in the fur. And faux-fur throws are now pretty much on sale (spring and all that) if she wants to snuggle in.
Oh, your pre-teen will love this. Get them involved as it could be a fun and bonding project. I'd suggest using the faux fur just as covers for some throw pillows. The by-the-yard foam may be more practical than thick cushions that would decrease the head room available for the pre-teen and friends. You might consider placing a large plastic drop cloth on the flooring as the base. Double-sided quilt fabric might be a good choice so it could be thrown in the W/D on a regular basis and the sides could be flipped for a change in design. What a fun project for you two!
how big is the area? If its small enough you can just get one of those 3 or 4" foam mattresses, then cover it in fur material by the yard. You shouldn't need a slip proof mat, maybe just some corner things that will keep the material from slipping off the pad.
