I do have a suggestion for your lawn.Cliver works great! Its hardy and drought resistant and only grows to 2 inches and when mowed its like a cool freas carpet on the feet Opps not cliver. Clover. I know alot of people hate when it pops up in there lawn but it really takes a beatin and does well.It will attractbees to the ground which i like but some people dont.
Ps you can get bags of clover seed in better garden stores.
My husband always took pride in our lawn also, and we had over 3 acres! First thing we did after relocating to southern Virginia was to find the nearest Co-op. They have experts for your area for type of grass, weed-n-feed, pest control, the works. Plus, purchasing from a co-op is considerably cheaper than big box or home improvement stores.
Advice from someone in Maine will be different than that from New Mexico. Get advice from a local pro. Best of luck!
