Hi Margaret! What worked best for me is using an X-acto knife to lightly score the wallpaper in a diamond pattern, like a larger version of scoring a ham before baking it, and then saturating the wallpaper with a spray-on product whose name escapes me at the moment. It's a thick blue gel that comes in a clear plastic spray bottle shaped like a Windex bottle. Let that sit for about ten to fifteen minutes, then use a putty knife to scrape the paper off the wall.

There is a tool you can buy that has little blades on it and you wheel it over the wall, scoring the wallpaper. Then you can make a home-made solution of fabric softener and warm water. I saw Nicole Curtis do this on diy network (Rehab Addict show--it's on their website.

Unfortunately the best way is to steam it and then scrape it.

Warm water and fabric softener works great. Put it in a spray bottle and spray well, let soak in for a few minutes and scrape off with a plastic spatula. Make sure you protect your floor, water and sticky wallpaper will stick to the floor and makes a real mess. Good luck, you may have to apply more than once.

S spray bottle of warm/hot water and plastic scraper. Not as tedious as you think it would be.
