What color for kitchen cabinets

  • What would compliment your countertops and backsplash? Pull color from that. If the room is dark, I would choose a lighter color.

Kitchen cabinet color depends on the rest of colors and the lighting level in your kitchen. Do you want to coordinate or contrast? Do you prefer wood tones? Same hue everywhere or lighter uppers? A dramatic color on an island? One caveat, if you are selling soon, best to go conservative so as not to limit your buying pool.

White is still popular. Grey is very nice, too, in stain or paint. If staining a wood, I'd stay away from dark shades - just my own preference.

First, color is very personal. You need to chose what you like. You'll be the one living with it.

Second, do you have a small or large kitchen? A light color will make a small kitchen look bigger and more airy. I'm not a fan of stark white, I like a light cream with a white glaze (I think a dark glaze makes the cabinets look dirty) . The glaze sits in edges and corners. In a large kitchen, color doesn't matter as much.

Third, lighting is also important for choosing a color. Do you have enough lights in your kitchen? What kind of lights do you have? If you have a lot of natural light, you can go with a darker color if you want.

Fourth, you do need to work with the existing fixtures unless you are planning to replace or refinish them also. What color are your counters, walls, floors, appliances and backsplash?

It depends on the look you are trying to accomplish white seems timeless but warm colors are back "in" for 2018. Don' t be afraid to mix colors such as a lighter color on your wall cabinets and a darker color on your base cabinets or island if you have one. Always remember dark is on the bottom.
