Hello. When I re-pot my house plants I use a pot that is 2"-4" larger in diameter than the current pot. Good Luck!
it reallt depends on the type of plant. Some really like a tight fit.
never go more than 1" larger than the existing pot!
I was told by a nursery person to use a pot twice the size of the plant to give room for growth.
You repot in a pot just one size bigger than the one you currently have. Don't go bigger as it will affect growth of your plant.
The plant will need enough room so it is not rootbound, usually twice the size is adequate.
One size up from the original pot unless it has grown to much from the original pot.Make sure it is large enough to accommodate the root system and has drainage holes.If the roots are tangled ,gently pull them and trim as necessary
