There are so very many ways to make/decorate a headboard. Look on Pinterest for pictures that she likes then copy it.

Tell her to gather ideas and items that she likes and make some sketches. I have found that when it’s in front of me....inspiration always strikes!
I have seen head boards that are unusual in that they have shaped tops and two instead of one. If I were going to make a head board that is the design I would like. It is unusual and if you have a jig saw and someone to use it it would not be difficult. For ideas and inspiration, look at fancy twin bed designs and imagine them placed side by side at the head of a queen sized bed.
this is the sort of design I mean. Not the posts but the shape of the headboards. Two of these together would be novel.
