What to plant?

Perennials for shade....Heuchera,bleeding hearts, columbine,hosta....annuals for shade....fushia,non-stop begonia, elephant ears,New Guniea impatients,Coleous,Torenia,bon fire begonia,

a mix of hosta, caladium, astilbe, impatiens, coleus. If you can, try to find varigated hosta (most often green and white) Be aware that deer love hosta if they are prevalent where you live. Good luck!

Ferns! They’re hardy and love shade. There are quite a few perennails, too. Not, “house ferns”, ask your garden department which type for outdoors.

I forgot to mention Hostas! They’re shade-loving. We have Hostas planted in the sun, and have to spray W10 on them to keep them from burning.

I’m in zone seven as well, I’ve had success with ground covers like vinca and sedums, flowers hellabore, pulmonaria, and astilbe. Coleus are annuals but can give a big wow factor with their fancy leaf shapes and colors. Planters and pots can assist in shady area- some areas under trees can be quite dry and inhospitable to root development and survival.

Hello. Ferns, bleeding hearts, and astilbe also make a good addition to a shade garden. These are all perennials and will come back every year.
