What do I use to hang pictures on apartment walls?

They do not want nail or screw holes in the walls. They want us to use command strips but some of my pieces are too heavy for the strongest strips. I tried the strips and after one of my pieces fell I had to have the frame fixed professionally for $90.00! I can't afford this!

Thanks for answering. I have tried them but my walls are not smooth. They have a nubby finish to them and the command strips will not hold, no matter how many I use.

Have you asked your landlord if you can use nails in wall? We had quite a bit of damage in our church attempting to use the command strips..broken pics plus damaged sheetrock!

Personally, I would just hang it with a cleat, and repair the holes with spackle when you move out.... one trick I always did, was when I saw the painters on the property, I would take a jar and ask for some paint, so when I needed to repair the wall I had the matching paint.

You can use needles for hand sewing. They can hold up to 10 lbs each and leave a tiny hole. A hole that size is easily covered when you remove it with toothpaste. Wipe the wall smooth when done. For extra heavy pieces, use more than one needle. They are great for apartment dwellers!

Landlords don't want you to put nails in because they want the unit returned in the condition it was rented in HOWEVER, if you patch the holes and paint over the holes when you vacate, you should be fine. Make sure you use the correct hangers for the weight of the objects you want to hang, P.S. - I used Command strips several times - they never stick permanently for me (sorry, 3M!)

Do you have any molding in your rooms? If so you can get brass holders that fasten into the molding and can suspend cords etc to hold some art work. This is one example of such hangers.

can u use hanging plant hooks on ceiling? If so use them and hang heavier pictures using small-medium chain (get it cut to the length you need, find it at most hardware stores. Use the chain that looks nice, the smallest size link sturdy enough to hold the weight and looks best with the size of picture. Then put the hooks up as close to wall as possible so the picture will also be able to hang close to the wall too. You will need to be able to connect the chain to picture on each side so it hangs correctly. I wouldn't hang all pictures like that of course, and I would try not to do more than 2 in any one room. Use the command strips for other stuff. ( I have used heavy gage straight pins, like the type that have colored round tops, to hang small photos, or light weight decor. They leave a tiny, tiny pin hole} One thing I will suggest on anything you hang, is to use the round silicone dots on all corners to prevent scuff marks, and don't put you furniture right up against the walls. Most apartments use flat or eggshell paint and that stuff is terrible. You cant wipe it clean, and every scuff mark shows. But you may just have to do what you can. Get some decorative peel and stick vinyl designs and create a wall that will give some character to you space too!
