First... remove the racks, and bottom drawer

Second... treat all of the really lumpy stuff and remove it

Third... run the cleaning cycle at a time YOU WILL BE AT HOME (we do our in the morning when the house is cooler)

Fourth... after the cycle has finished... in a COOL oven... wipe the whole thing down with white vinegar.... let dry and you are done

I was told not to use the self cleaning function on my over because it will damage the probe which controls the heat. Just use oven cleaner as directed.

Have you done that before, regular oven cleaner on a self-cleaning O? I am very nervious about the projected 700* heat. My stove backs up to a GAS fireplace. I can just see my piano, my Ethan Allen funiture going up in smoke! NOT replaceable! Piano for 1st anni and my husband has gone to heaven!!!

I use baking soda and vinegar on mine. Sprinkle surfaces with baking soda, spray down with a vinegar and water combo (I do 3/4 vinegar to 1/4 water personally), let the reaction take place and let sit for a few minutes and then wipe and scrub clean.

  • If you no longer have your owners manual, look it up on line at the manufacturers website. I have a self cleaning oven and have never used this feature, I just use some baking soda and vinegar. Check out these links!

Call your manufacturer 1-800 and ask with an explanation of your exact situation -your circumstances may warrant alternative means. All the 800# customer service help that I have used has been exceptional. Safety is imperative.

I am now using a fireproof cover that my daughter gave me for Christmas a few years ago. I have seen them at Bed, Bath and Beyond. The lay at the bottom, under the heating eye. Mine is black and catches so very much. I take it out and clean it off and just wipe the rest of my oven. It works very nicely! I too would worry about the furniture as would not want a fire of any sorts. Take care and see if you can find the oven cover.

They all the same more or less. Look at your oven, press oven clean. That is! if the over had food burn. wet with a cloth, wipe with paper towel. The rest the heat will clean.

    Take the oven racks out.

Your self cleaning over will have a lock/latch that you engage before cleaning it. Press the button to start the process, this turns on the super heat your oven was built to withstand. It stops automatically when the cycle is over. Wipe any residue with a dampened cloth when cool.
