What deck material would you recommend for a deck in the northeast!

Trex. Never needs painting, any kind of treatment. Looks and feels like wood comes in many colors. A little expensive BUT SO WORTH IT!

It really is a matter of choice, everything has good and bad to it. Pressure treated wood needs to be painted or stained every few years. It can last a long time if taken care of, but eventually will require boards to be replaced.

A composite like a trex will stain if something is spilled on it (wine, etc) or left on it (flower petals that fall off of a plant and left there or anything like that). Trex is much more expensive. The composites also gets really hot to walk on in bare feet.

I don't know if cement is an option, it depends if it's a deck over something or porch type that you're asking about. Cement lasts a long time, and doesn't require much if any up keep and stays cooler to walk on than trex. You can do a lot with it, leave as is, paint or stain, stamp it, put tiles on it, etc. Flower petals, if left on it, will also stain an unfinished cement but can be cleaned.

What ever you use, make sure to have footings pour to support your deck. I hope this helps. Good luck with your project.

We had our double porches totally replaced this summer (reusing some of the antique pieces) the decking is pressure treated lumber. On our front porch which is the same design but smaller than this, I suggested that my husband replace the worn boards that are under the columns/posts with the more expensive stuff. At one board the cost is not prohibitive and those are the boards that get the most wear.
