Painting concrete in a high traffic area.

Hi hometalkers... I want to paint a faux rug in a concrete area that is outside, covered but will have pieces of furniture on it and will be walked in. What type of paint should I use? I live in Australia and it gets quite hot/humid at times. It the area is undercover. Thank you!! ☮️

There are specific paints to use to decorate concrete floors available at craft stores. They all require that the concrete be clean and dry before painting. It helps that there is a roof over the spot, but these projects don't last more than a few years. The concrete is porous and may take several coats of paint. Did our front porch some years ago when the paints were first available; followed all the directions, but still only lasted three years and the third year was very faded. This area, however, was not under roof. Have fun; it was a cool project.

The mot important part is that the concrete be very clean. Maybe clean it with a pressure washer, let dry, then apply a stain-blocking paint which will make your finish paint stick to it. Do a couple of coats of the color you want and then cover with clear coat to seal. If you prefer not to do that, the paint will likely last quite a while without it. The main thing is to be careful when moving the furniture around. Try tol lift it a bit rather than dragging it on the painted floor as the paint may scrape off.

What a great idea. The most important is to prep and clean the cement. You can use a cement stain or paint made for cement after.

Keep in mind, with furniture possibly being slid across it and people walking on it, it may not look so good after a little while. My dog's nails destroy every paint we put on our concrete, covered or not. And her nails are clipped at least once a month. Just wanted to give you my thoughts. Good luck.
