Hi Shore, A lot of people like to use chalk paint because there is very little prep. You just need to be aware of how to seal it so that it doesn't wash off. Click below for an article about chalk painting cabinets and another one using latex paint. Wishing you the best.

I used colorplace paint and it did not hold up well. 3 years later it was worn in typically touched spaces. I need to repaint now and am considering chalk paint. Kitchen is large, about 45 cabinets and drawers. I used 2 gallons.
I Shore. I have open shelving. I have only painted the insides of the shelving once. These shelves were extended from the original shelves in the '80's so that is when I did the painting. It is oil paint, probably Benj. Moore. Where we have closed sections, it is white paint, also Benj. Moore (OW 30).
We really have not repainted at all. All surfaces would have been clean though.

Shore, the main thing to concern yourself with is prep. you could use the best paint in the world, but on a poor prep it won't last. in a nutshell, clean, degrease, sand, prime (sometimes twice) w/oil base primer, fine sand again, then paint. BM Advance is a great cabinet paint. Even if using chalk paint, I would still do those prep steps. having painted kitchen cabinets (always mark and keep track of what goes where when removing them) I will tell you that key prep work will be worth it's weight in gold. You only want to do this once. PREP!
