I tried putting a thick elastic band over the screw and it came right out after a few turns of the proper screw driver. Good luck.

There are several kits out there for removing damaged screws. It's a great tool to always have around the house. Any hardware store will carry them. They work with any drill and they are usually less than $15.

You can find sets like this at big box stores or other hardware stores. You need a powerdrill. This is on Amazon and you don't need a drill bit as it has it's own. A couple of things to try: try a larger size screw driver and push into the screw head, the metal may be soft enough to "give" for a better grip; place a rubber band over the screw head between the screw head and screwdriver. Press firmly and slowly turn counterclockwise. If all else fails, go to hardware store and purchase a special extractor drill bit made just for this purpose. My husband always had one in his toolbox

I have seen my husband take another screw and screw it into the first with a power drill, then reverse the drill and out both come!

Use a drill to drill it out. Fill the hole with wooden toothpicks and then put in a new screw.
