Chalk Paint + Wax + Lettering?

I'm new to using chalk paint and wax and what I'd like to do is create a sign (painted words using my Cricut) and am unsure of which to do 1st, 2nd, last.
I have painted the wood with chalk paint. I'd like to wax next but didn't know if my painted lettering would stick on top of the wax....but if I wax on top of the painted lettering perhaps it won't be legible.

Not sure that the lettering would stick on wax. Depends on your color wax, I have used several colors of wax and only black and the dark antiquing might cover some lettering (depending on the color of the lettering and how old you want it to look).
