Most of the home improvement stores sell "shade Sails: you will need to install posts to attach them too.... also many, including Walmart have freestanding metal pergolas in their garden departments... and if you need more shade.. you can cover it with canvas or shade cloth (Lowe's garden dept. by the foot) Pinterest.com will have some other ideas for your too

  • Cheapest and easiest would be to purchase a patio umbrella or two. Other options are building a pergola or patio cover. Another option is to install a sail shade.

sounds like you need a patio table and umbrella. a wooden screen would not be a bad thing. have you considered awnings?

We have a table with umbrella but sun from the side is so bright and hot so was wondering what you mean by a wooden screen

I built a pergola/arbor, but you can easily purchase one.

Seems like an awning would give you a greater area of coverage, maaybe a retractable one to go flush to the house when not in use.

Trellis panels joined by hinges so it would fold up flatter for storage. they would be free standing and portable to block the sun and ad privacy
